INTERNET ACCESS
If you're looking for internet access during your visit:
You can also buy a digital SIM card for Europe. Here are a variety of options, and you install the card buy downloading it to your phone digitally. I used Instabridge and bought 10 GB of data good for 30 days for $12. After checking out online, it was fast for me to download the eSIM card on my phone after I installed their app.
FYI - An eSIM, or embedded SIM card, is a digital version of a physical SIM card that's built into a device and works entirely digitally. eSIMs work by downloading software onto a pre-installed microchip in a device, which allows the device to connect to a mobile network and perform the same functions as a traditional SIM card. Only phones released in the last few years can accommodate eSIMs. Learn more >Another WIFI we use is called a hot spot and it only works in Italy. You can buy the device from the phone store in the left side of the COOP mall. The device is about 100 euros but you refill it with a 25 euro SIM card that gives you WIFI for 30 days (unlimited devices although fewer devices makes for faster speeds). You need your passport to purchase the sim card, and they will make a copy of it for their files. It will also take 30 - 45 minutes so pack your patience.
The Formica Elettrodomestici at 17 Via Giuseppe Garibaldi in Umbertide sells WIFI hot spots for about 75 euros with 30-day SIM cards for 30 euro. This hot spot uses a universal SIM card and is higher quality than the hot spots from the COOP. They also need your passport and it will take 30 - 45 minutes. +39 075 941 3289
Another option is a mobile hot spot like Cellular Abroad or TEP Wireless. They both support up to five devices at a time and the speed is 3G or faster. You rent it in advance and it's mailed to you at your address in the U.S. one to three days before your trip. You mail it back in the envelope provided after you return from your trip. They're about the same price ($9.95/day), but TEP Wireless gets better reviews.
There is also free WIFI in the main Piazza in Umbertide.
